NUTRITION


Course Information

This course explores careers in nutrition and foods such as dietetics (Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist), food science and technology, culinary arts and hospitality.  Educational pathways, employment trends and opportunities, and developing a personal career plan will be emphasized.

This course provides an introduction to the science of nutrition which deals with the role of nutrients in the human body. Scientific concepts related to individual needs during the changing life cycles are discussed, and interrelationships of nutrients are evaluated for promotion of optimum health.

This course provides an introduction to the chemical, physical, and nutritional properties of foods and the changes that occur during their cooking, processing and storage.  Emphasis is placed on developing food preparation skills based on fundamental scientific principles, along with considerations to food safety, cost, culture, health and sustainability.
