Minutes

Standard 2

May 8, 2000

Present: Rudy DeLa Torre, Richard Rains, Victoria Hansen, John Cantley, Roman Juarez, Joanne Kalter-Flink, Eloise Cantrell

1. John & Eloise

Discussion: What goes in to be entered in the schedule and catalog is different than what is printed. The scheduling process relies on faculty to proof galleys. The schedule’s information format is not clear and the data is not correct. The college is stuck using schedule 4 because it is the only scheduling system that is compatible with the district’s DEC. Lucian Carter, the original programmer, no longer updates the system and the software is outdated. Eloise mentioned that Dr. Castro has been looking for a scheduling software that is compatible with the District database system.

2. Rudy DeLa Torre

Discussion: The survey might show how new faculty views academic freedom and ethics. The faculty handbook needs to be updated. SEE NOTES. Faculty and counselors can no longer sign to allow people to enter class with a prerequisite or minimum level (Joanne K-F) Perception is that colleges have lowered standards to allow more people to graduate or transfer.

9. Discussion: Program review is evolving into assessment. Academic Affairs is considering solutions for the problem of catalog errors. The catalog sign-off is not working. A possible solution would be a final reading by the person who inputs the data. Schedule 4 hasn’t been updated to keep up with the current scheduling of the college.
