Los Angeles Mission College Standard Three meeting November 23, 1999 Minutes Present: Mike Reynolds, Daniel Castro, David Jordan, David Pardess, Mark Pracher, Rosalie Hilger, Linda Solar, John Cantley The video on conducting a successful self-study by the Accreditation Commission was shown. An overview of assessment and accreditation was presented to the members summarizing progress to date including some re-organizing efforts. A discussion of the Multi-College Pilot Program and its timetable was held. The current proposed calendar for the pilot program was discussed. A final commitment to a series of milestones and a master calendar has not been made. It was agreed by consensus that a permanent meeting time would be set at the next meeting. It was announced that Darlene Pacheco, a member of the Accreditation Commission, visited the campus on November 18 for a working lunch. A report on her talk was made. It was recommended that members read her paper on a "Culture of Evidence" as background material. It is on line at the accreditation web page at the LAMC web site. It was announced that the process at LAMC may be managed using Microsoft Project, an on-line management tool. The accreditation chair gave a presentation on the commission's new focus in the 1996 Handbook on assessment. The thrust of the presentation centered on the need for evidence of assessment and its use in making the institution improve. Considerable discussion was held on the roll assessment will play in the Standard 3 part of the self-study. The efforts the master planning committee is making will be crucial to many aspects of institutional effectiveness. An exercise in mapping outcomes was conducted to familiarize the committee members with that process. It was clear to many members that there is a need to establish a continuum from student outcomes to institutional outcomes. Members were urged to attend the master plan committees next meeting. Co-writers were not selected. It was decided that they would be chosen at the next meeting. It was announced that either Roman Juarez, the accreditation assistant, or John Cantley, the chair, would attend all meetings of all standards to take notes and provide support. Mr. Juarez is currently accumulating all required documentation for the standards and will provide it to the co-chairs in paper form or make links to appropriate documents at the web site.
