Los Angeles Mission College Standard Three meeting December 16, 1999 Minutes Present: Mike Reynolds, Daniel Castro, David Pardess, Mark Pracher, Rosalie Hilger, John Orozco, Maury Pearl, John Cantley, Roman Juarez Maury Pearl introduced himself and discussed his role in the self study with regard to data development and surveys. The matrix was discussed at length in its potential for assisting with organizing the descriptions. The committee decided to go through the standard section by section. A.1 - 4 Very recently the college has acquired a full-time researcher in Pearl. His role will be to assist the college with developing procedures for assessment of effectiveness. He will be responsible for these sections along with Pracher and Orozco. B.1, 2 and 3 Reynolds and Pardess will be responsible for this section. As chair of the master plan committee, he will describe the current development of a master planning process. There was committee discussion of the need for assessment of student outcomes associated with and informing master planning. Several members agreed that more information was needed and that the meeting with commissioner Pacheco revealed our need to go forward with some sort of assessment project. Pearl and Cantley talked about the forthcoming assessment institute and the possibility for faculty and administration to form a team to attend. C.1 The committee related this to B.3. See discussion there. There was consensus that the college does specify outcomes for the institution as a whole--there is a new set of goals-but lacks documentation since they are new. Program outcomes and general education outcomes along with various other support functions outcomes are generally lacking. Castro, Morales and Jordan will be responsible for this section and C.2 and C.3. C.2 The college does send data from various research functions to the state as a reporting body. C.3 It was agreed that we are currently reviewing the institutional research efforts, our planning process and plans and are developing an interest in assessment.
