Minutes

April 12, 2000

Present: Ed. Casson, Susan Polk, Sandy Thomsen, Stan Levine, Roman Juarez, John Cantley, Evan Berand, Terry Carter, Bob Smazenka, Ed. Zayas.

6.1 The committee reviewed Thomsen’s description about the new library.

Discussion: The committee discussed about how the to arrange the LRC description, by departments, by floors or as a whole.

For Evaluation: Look at National Standards and add Polk’s own survey.

6.2 The committee reviewed Smazenka’s description about the new e-mail system.

Discussion: The description should also include the conference room which is not yet set up for teleconference.

For Evaluation: Include the lack of consultation with the faculty and staff on technology plans. Give objective examples: students can’t access CD’s, no management of CD’s server, etc.

6.3 The committee reviewed Garza’s description

Discussion: Garzas’s writing can be summarized. There might be some repetition with section 6-1.

For Evaluation: include technology and information literacy competencies for students and staff.

6.4 The committee reviewed Smazenka’s description

Discussion: need to include job descriptions and how the staff are approved,

how users are qualified of technology resources (include Claudio’s area), and tutors.

6.5

Discussion: Thomsen is meeting with Margie Long to write a unified statement on the budget process.

For Evaluation: include late availability of funds, which have to be spent at the last minute.

For Evaluation: include

software upgrade licenses
discontinued equipment maintenance service contract and how effective they were
inability to do site authentication, which limits the amount of databases that can be offered.

6.7

For evaluation: include how funding is not available to meet students needs.
