Los Angeles Mission College Standard Seven meeting December 13, 1999 Minutes Present: Eloise Cantrell, Gwen Walker, Margarita Padilla, Nancy Hoge, Maury Pearl, Harlan Goldberg, John Klitsner, John Cantley Committee members made some comments on whether or not certain faculty were qualified to teach in the assigned subject fields. It was stated that all faculty must meet minimum qualifications by state law. Margarita Padilla reported that she had a long and productive interview with Shari Borchetta on staff hiring and allocation procedures. The minutes are being written up and will be available next meeting. A.1-3: discussion regarding how the committee could determine what sufficient actually means. Opinions varied on how the college actually plans the allocation of both faculty and staff. Technical support is woefully lacking many members felt. Questions concerning the policy for requesting new positions came up. It was decided to get a written policy if it could be found. Some statements were made that trends in community needs need to be assessed to determine future needs in staff. Declining or accelerating enrollments in programs may be the determining factor. Program review looks at this. Questions occurred regarding the district policy on 75-25 vs. the campus policy. It was recommended that John Klitsner re-interview Dr. Castro regarding the policy. The subject of surveys was discussed. Maury Pearl talked about the way surveys are validated and where survey questions for Standard 7 might come from. He offered to put sample questions on the web-site for committee members to use as models. He stated that the plan is to do a student/staff/faculty/community set of surveys in March. The consensus of the committee was to do further research focusing on processes and procedures. Eloise Cantrell and Gwen Walker will attend the January 6 workshop.
