a.1 Discussion: The district does not have enough candidates in its hiring pool because the colleges can not afford to pay at a professional rate. Most good employees don’t last in the job-especially in the technology areas.

a.3 Discussion: Master’s degree as the minimum qualification to teach. Classroom demonstrations are common at LAMC when interviewing for a teaching job. The committee also discussed the possibility of evaluating instructors every semester. However this is against the contract.

b.2 Discussion: It is hard to do an honest peer evaluation with constructive criticism. Since the departments are small it is hard to have subject-content qualified evaluators.

For evaluation: recommend to bring evaluators from other colleges who could be more honest when evaluating. Also recommend to workshops on evaluation since the evaluation process is not universally known. Recommend staff development survey results.

C.1 The committee discussed flex activities and didn’t agree whether the faculty are paid to learn or are they paid only if they learn.

D.1 Discussion: we have a compliance officer (Kay Devine) and she will get procedure. There will be a workshop to recruit new instructors at the college this weekend--include.

For evaluation: Mention the English incident and say that it is not normal. We have to mention it because it will arise during the accreditation visit.

D.2 Discussion: Present An Bergo’s white paper on Affirmative Action. What are the new procedures for pool recruitment with decentralization.
