CONFLICT RESOLUTION PROCEDURE
- Complaint in writing to the Collegial Facilitator
- Collegial Facilitator reports to AS president who appoints 3 to S faculty facilitators from among volunteer pool to help facilitate a resolution. The Collegial Facilitation Committee’s formation should not take longer than 1 week.
- the Collegial Facilitation Committee only deals with complaints involving disciplines and their departments, and is also limited to practical and academic matters (e.g. funds for discipline, classroom space, etc), not to resolving personality issues
- the committee’s purpose is not to judge who is right or wrong nor to render mandatory decisions, but to facilitate resolution by offering non mandatory options for both sides of the conflict to consider
- the committee members should not be members of the department from which the complaint was issued
- The committee reviews written complaint within I week of the committee’s formation.
- both sides to the disagreement are contacted for understanding of the differing perspectives
- The "other side" to the disagreement has an opportunity to respond in writing
- Within 1 week after the committee’s review, the committee shall offer options for resolution in writing to both sides of the disagreement. It is preferable that the written options be presented at a meeting involving all parties.
- disagreement resolved
- disagreement not resolved, but both parties willing to continue with resolution facilitation procedure
- disagreement not resolved and may be taken to next level (union and/or administration, or other)
