Next week, Mission College will participate in a march in Sacramento, in an appeal to lawmakers not to cut the community college budget. One of the day's most dramatic demonstrations is expected to the the "Missing Community College Student" art project. As many as 300 five-foot statues, each symbolically representing the many students who have been turned away from community colleges this year because of the tuition increases and class reductions, will be placed on the state Capitol lawn. In photo, Francesca Loy (left) and Brenda Krattiger put the finishing touches on Mission College's contribution to the art project. Titling the work "Swiss Cheese Education," Loy and Krattiger have depicted a student who, like a Swiss Cheese, has been cut through with holes symbolic of recent state budget reductions.
