The CalWORKs Program at Los Angeles Mission College assists students in transitioning from welfare to achieving long term self-sufficiency through coordinated student services.

The CalWORKs program provides a comprehensive array of services including one-on-one counseling, tutoring, personal and professional development workshops, childcare, and work experience.

You may be eligible for the LAMC CalWORKs program if you are:

Enrolled at LAMC, currently receiving cash aid from the CalWORKs program.

OR

A former welfare recipient (whose last cash aid was received within the last two years) who is now working but needs help in upgrading his or her skills, job retention or job advancement.

• On or off campus work study. Both allow students the opportunity to meet the work requirements while attending community college and obtaining valuable work experience leading to possible employment
• Free-of-charge child care at LAMC Child Development Center or off-campus licensed child care provider
• Academic, career, and personal counseling
• Job development and placement, including employment activities that enable students to meet their work participation requirements for the CalWORKs program
• On-campus academic support services such as tutoring
• Computer labs with specialized software such as PLATO, Access 21st Century, and ESL
• Referrals to community resources
• Help with filling out progress reports and verifications
• Resume writing workshops
• Job search, job interview, life skills and problem solving workshops
• Books and supplies

• Current Notice of Action
• Social Security card
• Valid California Driver's license or ID card
• Child's Birth Certificate (if applying for child care)

• Neighborhood Legal Services
• Department of Public Social Services
• DPSS other services offered
