Instructor Roberta Sistos

Ms. Sistos is a former managing partner of the San Diego office of Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP, where she specialized in employment, civil rights and constitutional law as legal counsel to large school districts and community colleges located throughout California. Ms. Sistos recently established the Law Offices of Roberta R. Sistos, when she returned to the San Fernando Valley, the home of her origin. Ms. Sistos currently represents management in labor and employment related matters in the public and private sectors. She provides her clients with guidance on issues related to labor relations, employment claims, affirmative action compliance plans, downsizings and reorganizations, as well as a variety of other matters impacting employers.

Over the course of her professional career, Ms. Sistos has dedicated numerous hours to community service. She was appointed to the Minerva Working Committee two years ago by California's First Lady Maria Shriver and currently sits on the Southern California Gas & Electric Community Advisory Board, a board that works to enhance awareness of the economic impact of energy policies in minority communities. Ms. Sistos has served as the Chair of the Hispanic National Bar Association's Supreme Court Committee and as a member of the California Judicial Nominees Evaluation Commission, the investigative body which assists the Governor in evaluating the qualifications of judicial candidates seeking appointment to all levels of the California State Courts. Ms. Sistos has sat as a director on the boards of numerous non-profit corporations and bar associations whose mission is to advance economic, educational and professional opportunities for members of the community. As a result of her activities, Ms. Sistos is regularly invited to speak on corporate, employment law, and Hispanic media, political and judicial issues. She has formally addressed noted audiences at the White House, Harvard University, and the University of California at Berkeley, among others, and has been a guest speaker on National radio and television programs concerning various Hispanic issues.


Ms. Sistos is admitted to practice in all the courts of California, the United States District Courts in the Southern, Central and Northern Districts of California, and the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. Ms. Sistos obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from San Diego State University with honors, and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law.
