Admin Services Says Farewell to Retirees

Campus employees filled the Arroyo Room today to say thank you and farewell to eight members of the Administrative Services team who will be retiring this year.

Pedro Avendano; Walter Bortman; Mark Cupp; James Liko; Marina Pineda; William Roane; Julius Walker Jr.; and Carolyn Urrutia are all saying goodbye to Los Angeles Mission College after years of dedicated service.

Ms. Pineda, who spent 26 years and 6 months as part of the facilities team, said she was grateful for the opportunity to work at the college and provide for her children.

“I feel happy,” she said. “Thank God.”

When it was his turn to speak, Mr. Walker playfully broke into song, “you’re gonna miss me when I’m gone,” before following up by saying that Mission “has banded together to create Mayberry here,” in reference to the fictitious community popularized in The Andy Griffith Show.

Mr. Roane was also thankful for his time at Mission and said "there's not many places where you can go to work and put your heart into it and get it back."
