Don't Miss the Return of 'Peter and the Starcatcher'

Posted on: 2/20/2018

After their wildly popular run in the fall, Los Angeles Mission College Theatre Arts is proud to present a two-week revival of Peter and the Starcatcher, a play by Rick Elice with music by Wayne Barker, and directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts, Robert Cucuzza

This Tony Award-winning play with music will be presented in L.A. Mission College’s new Arts, Media and Performance Theater from March 15-24. Performances will take place Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Saturdays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and $20 and can be purchased at beginning on March 1.

The college will host a number of events that introduce the new Arts, Media and Performance building to the community and celebrate this moving, relevant production about a group of young dreamers searching for a home. Community leaders, industry professionals, and local high and middle schools will help christen L.A. Mission College as the cultural and arts educational hub of the northeast San Fernando Valley.

“We’re really looking forward to bringing back this popular play, particularly because we’re hosting a special matinee for our local high school students to come and enjoy the show,” said L.A. Mission College President Monte Perez, PhD. “At a time when our local middle and high school students have less access to the arts, our college is proud to provide programming and resources to fill that gap.”

In this prequel to Peter Pan, Molly, an apprentice starcatcher, and three orphan boys take to the high seas with a trunk full of magical starstuff while pursued by the ruthless pirate Black Stache and his band of marauders. The chase leads to an island, where Molly learns what it means to grow up, Stache loses his hand, the lost boys take up residence, and an extraordinary orphan is christened “Peter,” the boy who refused to grow up. A dozen actors play scores of characters, employing inspired stagecraft, and the limitless possibilities of the imagination to create everything from a pirate ship battle in a hurricane to a flying cats and hungry crocodiles.

Robert Cucuzza has assembled a team of professional guest artists to work hand-in-hand with student actors and designers to bring the biggest production in the history of L.A. Mission College to life and give audiences a glimpse of the exciting future of our theatre program. Guest artists include co-director Jon Patrick Walker, who performed in the Broadway production of Peter and the Starcatcher and is currently on tour as King George in Hamilton.
