Let us help you pay for college! Our college is here to help you improve your life through learning, and this office is here to help you pay for that education!  There are many types of financial aid, and most of our students qualify for aid that doesn’t have to be paid back. This is true whether you’re a full- OR part-time student. PLEASE look over this page to get the information you need, and contact us if you need help or have any questions.

Did you know?

  1. If you get financial aid, you are much more likely to earn the degree or certificate you want! Set yourself up for success and apply today!
  2. Financial aid can help you in LOTS of different ways. Not only can it help pay for your tuition and books, it may also help pay for other expenses like housing and food!
  3. You don’t have to be a full-time student to qualify for financial aid! Most LAMC students qualify for some form of aid.

Start here! How to apply for financial aid

The first step to getting aid is filling out one of the applications listed below. Just follow the instructions below. And once you’ve begun an application, if you have any problems or questions, we're happy to help! Either come by our office (info above on right) or attend an Enrollment Day event where we can give you personal assistance.

  1. If you are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or an asylee, parolee, or refugee, you may qualify for both federal and state aid. You should complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). There are a few other requirements, but we’ll help you with those. Click the FAFSA plus sign below for detailed info and instructions.
  2. If you are not a citizen or one of the other categories listed in #1 above, but you qualify for the California Nonresident Tuition Exemption as an AB 540 student, you may qualify for state aid. You can complete a California Dream Act Application (CADAA) at caldreamact.org. Again, there are some other requirements, but we’ll help you with those. Click the CADAA plus sign below for detailed info and instructions.

  3. Whether qualify for federal or state aid, anyone may qualify for scholarships, and there are lots of scholarships available to our students. Everyone should fill out a scholarship application. Each scholarship has different requirements, but we will help you find the ones that are right for you! Click the Scholarships plus sign below for detailed info and instructions.

The FAFSA is the starting point to apply for federal grants (free money), work-study (on-campus employment), and loans (student or parent loans).  It is also the starting point to apply for state aid including the Cal Grant and California College Promise Grant (fee waiver). Most students should complete one!

The application for fall 2024 will be ready in late December and must be submitted by April 2, 2024 (for state aid consideration). Watch for further announcements.

Fill out the parts you can, then drop by our office (main floor of the Student Services and Admin. building) or attend an Enrollment Day event and we'll help you fill in the rest.

To apply: 

  1. For spring 2024: Go to the fafsa.gov site and click the "Start 2023-24 Form" button. afsa.gov for the link) for this year (including spring 2024)
  2. For summer or fall 2024: The application for the following year (2024-2025) will be available in late December at fafsa.gov.

Scholarship applications are due around the start of spring break. The application will be available by the first week of spring semester; watch for announcements coming in January about scholarships.

How to get help (or just answers)

We’re here to help!! There are several ways you can contact us with questions or problems:

During our office hours (8:30am - 4:00 pm, M-F) you can:

  1. Get live help at the Financial Aid counter in the lobby of the new Student Services and Administration Building (near the parking structure)
  2. Get help online using Cranium Cafe (instructions below).
  3. Get help by phone at (818) 364-7648 or (818) 364-7649. If we're helping someone else and can’t answer your call, please leave a voicemail (with your full name, Student ID number, and phone number) and we will call you back.
  4. Get help by email at lamcfinaid@lamission.edu. Please include your student ID # and LACCD email address in the email. Note: Email responses may take some time--up to 3 business days--but we will get back to you as quickly as we can.

How to get online help (using Cranium Cafe)

Please use Chrome or Firefox to access online help using your Canvas account and Cranium Cafe. Online help is available 8:30 am–4 pm, Monday through Friday. If you are using your phone while chatting with us please stay on the same page to prevent getting disconnected.

How to check your to-do list, view your awards, or check your refund (AFTER you’ve applied)

Click the plus signs below.

Step 1: Log on to the Student Portal (SIS system) <link here) and go to your homepage.

Step 2: Click on the “To-Do List and Holds” icon.

Step 3: After being redirected to your To-Do List & Holds, your pending items status should be marked as Initiated along with a due date of when they have to be submitted.

IMPORTANT: “Initiated” items means you need to submit them. Be sure that you submit all initiated items on your To-Do List so the Financial Aid Office can process your file.

Step 1: Log on to the Student Portal (SIS system) <link here) and go to your homepage.

Step 2: Click on the “Financial Aid & Scholarships” icon.

Step 3: After being redirected to the Financial Aid & Scholarships page you should be able to see a summary of how much aid you qualify for, for the academic year and the award status.
