Starting next week, Los Angeles Mission College will celebrate Latino Heritage with a series of events celebrating the history, culture, and contributions that Latinos have made to society.
End-Dependence Day Zoom Event
In honor of Mexico's Day of Independence MEChA invites you to participate in an online discussion on Monday, September 16th from 6 to 7 pm. The Zoom session will focus on the history and status of the case: “Concerned Jewish Parents and Teachers of Los Angeles et al. v. Liberated Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum Consortium et al.” led by Guadalupe Carrasco Cardona and Theresa Montaño of the Liberated Ethnic Studies Coalition. More Information
Indigenous Peoples’ Day at LAMC
Join MEChA in the quad on Wednesday, October 9th from 8 am to 3 pm to acknowledge and celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day! MEChA will host and showcase local Indigenous vendors who sell products made by indigenous peoples. Come out to support small businesses, enjoy music, and more! More Information
LAMC Founders’ Event
Help us celebrate our 50th Anniversary on Thursday, October 24th, from 12 to 1 pm, at a special Founders’ Event honoring the early visionaries of Los Angeles Mission College. The event will feature a panel discussion with community social justice activists, former LAMC staff members, and key allies who played pivotal roles in shaping the college we know today. Light refreshments will be served, and local entertainment will be announced soon. More Information
Día de los Muertos Altar Making Workshop
MEChA invites you to learn the history and cultural significance of Día de los Muertos by participating in their annual Altar Marking Workshop! Learn how to make traditional table altars, participate in making the “Tapete” altar, and make your own sugar skulls and papel picado! More Information
